Alase Technologies, Inc. New VersaScribe VL Series Diode Laser Marker Increases Throughput Up To 50%
PEPPERELL, MA—Alase Technologies, Inc. recently announced the release of their VersaScribe VL series Vanadate Diode Laser Marker. The VL series meets the demand for higher volumes in the laser engraving market by delivering a throughput rate 20% to 50% faster than traditional lasers. Applications range from medical device, metal, and decorative marking to product coding and identification.

The VersaScribe VL series is ideal for fine surface engraving and annealing, which is accomplished by heat-treating the surface of the material to create a black contrast. “The problem in the past was that this process took a lot of time,” explains David Sweet, Systems Manager for Alase Technologies. “With the VersaScribe VL laser, the increased pulsing frequency and power per pulse allow users to apply more heat more quickly than conventional flash lamp laser markers. That means higher throughput.”

Chief among the VL's many applications is marking sensitive components made of metals such as stainless steel, titanium and nitinol that are used in the medical and food industries. For such components, engraving may cause rust or allow particles to reside in the engraved portion of the metal. Using the VersaScribe VL, a manufacturer can provide a permanent mark that does not penetrate the surface of the metal.

The VersaScribe VL has been designed not only for speed but also for flexibility and reliability. The unit requires minimal preventative maintenance and entails no consumables costs. The marker is air cooled for temperature regulation and employs diode technology specifically designed for high reliability and long lifetime.

The VersaScribe VL series can be used in conjunction with Alase’s WinLase laser marking software, making it easy to create and engrave text, graphics, logos, bar codes, and 2D data matrix on a wide variety of materials, including stainless steel, titanium, printed circuit boards, aluminum, and plastics. Laser powers include 10W, 20W, and 50W. Field sizes range from 70mm to 280mm square, while spot size selection ranges from 22 to 60μm.

____________

Alase Technologies, Inc. designs and manufactures OEM and turnkey industrial laser processing solutions, is an OEM supplier of software to the laser marking industry, provides contract laser processing services for proof-of-concept, pilot production and low-volume manufacturing situations which do not economically justify the purchase of capital machinery, and supports industrial and academic research & development into ways to use laser technology in innovative materials and processes.
